About this tour
Atlanterhavsparken — the Atlantic Ocean Park — is built directly into the coastal landscape at Tueneset, just west of Alesund centre. Unlike conventional aquariums, large outdoor tanks use natural seawater pumped from the Atlantic, giving an authentic window into Norwegian marine life.
Inside and out you encounter cod, trout, seals in the seal bay, and seasonal feeding demonstrations that engage all ages. The park combines education with spectacle — ideal when weather makes outdoor touring less appealing or when travelling with children who need a structured, engaging activity.
Most cruise-friendly visits run two to three hours on site plus transfer time, making this a practical choice for four-to-six-hour port calls. It pairs less naturally with long scenic drives, so guests on eight-plus-hour schedules often combine it with a morning city tour or Mount Aksla visit.
Pre-booking transfers is recommended on peak days when multiple ships call Alesund and family excursions fill quickly.

Cruise passenger timing advice
Best when you have four to six hours ashore — enough for transfer, visit, and return buffer.
Check feeding demonstration times on arrival to plan your visit efficiently.
Keep 45 minutes before all aboard for transfer back to the cruise port.
Combine with a harbour lunch if your schedule allows independent dining after the visit.
